Digital PIN solution for opening doors at hotels: Partnership between Schulte-Schlagbaum AG and CODE2ORDER

The collaboration between Schulte-Schlagbaum AG with its access solution SAG Smart Access and CODE2ORDER enables automated opening of doors at hotels using a PIN – on the hotel guests’ smartphone, but with no need to download an app. This is a crucial component for an end-to-end digital guest journey, contactless service and smart room control at hotels.

Automated processes at hotels with digital PIN solution for opening doors

With SAG Smart Access & CODE2ORDER, doors are opened using a PIN, which guests can access after check-in. The PIN to open the door is sent to the guest’s smartphone via CODE2ORDER. Unique to date, this solution features an intelligent PIN that can be assigned as a temporary guest code for the specific time of their arrival or period of stay. Guests can complete the entire check-in process on their smartphones, including opening the door digitally with a PIN using the digital companion for hotel guests (* progressive web app) from CODE2ORDER. All of this is done without downloading an app or logging in. At the same time, the smart access solutions from SAG enable needs-based intelligent building management. This includes individual control of the room temperature and lighting based on the guest’s preferences.

The solutions from SAG Smart Access and CODE2ORDER enable contactless check-in on a smartphone including the delivery of a PIN code in order to open the door.

Digital solutions implemented at ZÄHLWERK Apartments in Pfaffenhofen

At Zählwerk Hotel & Serviced Apartments in Pfaffenhofen, the solutions from CODE2ORDER and SAG were put into operation in November of last year, enabling contactless check-in on guest smartphones, including PIN code delivery to open the door. “Our goal is to give our guests a digital companion that can provide all the information and services they need for the entire guest journey (before, during and after their stay). This includes the option to open the door and check in on a mobile device. In addition, we have reduced staffing at reception to a minimum, which is only possible using fine-tuned digital solutions. Considering the current situation, the greatest advantage of the solution is that contact can be kept to a minimum without losing out on service. At Zählwerk Apartments, guests can check in on their smartphone, receiving a PIN code for their apartment, and can check out on their date of departure without any problems. The invoice is then e-mailed automatically. CODE2ORDER and SAG make a convincing team, as both partners work very well together and their solutions work in perfect harmony”, says Christoph Habermann, Operations Manager, Zählwerk Apartments.

Dirk Heumann, head of sales for locking systems for doors and furniture at SAG, also emphasises the synergy effects of the solution: “In the Zählwerk Apartments project in Pfaffenhofen, it’s the first time ever we have three companies joining forces, Schulte-Schlagbaum AG for electronic locking systems, CODE2ORDER for the digital guest journey and apaleo as PMS, to enable end-to-end process automation, streamline processes and ultimately reduce staffing requirements. This frees up resources for personnel so that they can focus on the customer experience”.

Alexander Haußmann and Patrick Luik, founders and managing directors of CODE2ORDER, on the collaboration

“The goal is to fully automate the check-in and check-out process. After all, hotels can only harness the full potential of digitalisation if all steps are digitalised and connected. This means saving time and money, which can be invested in the important things, such as personal conversations, greeting and initial contact with guests. We are especially pleased with the partnership with SAG. Together, we will continue to automate processes and create added value for hotels and hotel guests”, says Alexander Haußmann, founder and managing director of CODE2ORDER GmbH.

“Technical implementation by both our teams was outstanding. In terms of speed and quality, it’s an impressive feat. By integrating the PIN solution from SAG, we now cover another important building block in the digital guest journey, without the need to install an app. We’re proud of our collaboration with such a renowned partner and look forward to the next joint technological developments”, says Patrick Luik, founder and managing director of CODE2ORDER GmbH.

* Like a website, a progressive web app can be opened via a URL and also offers offline functions (like an app). It is the perfect solution for reaching your guests on their smartphones/end devices without them having to download an app.
